Drink and Click kicks things off in Rhode Island!

Drink and Click Providence, Rhode Island launches with its first photo-walk

On Saturday, May 18th a group of Rhode Island photographers gathered to go where no photographers had gone before – the inaugural Drink and Click Providence, Rhode Island photo-walk! So what is a Drink and Click you ask? It is simply a group of photographers that meet up to have a drink, talk some photography & social media, and then walk around and take some photos. Its really a great way for local photographers to take time out of a hectic schedule and talk shop with colleagues.

To be very clear, Drink and Click is NOT about going out and pounding down a bunch of booze and then running amok around the city. Starting with a drink of any type – water, soda, whatever – simply allows for some informal social time for folks to get to know each other and interact a bit before venturing out for some photography. Our “drink” actually was a meal!

Drink and Click Providence, Rhode Island organizers Bob Dansereau and Ed King made arrangements for the crew to met up at Fat Bellies, on Canal Street in Providence. After a meal and a little socializing, the crew was ready to hit the streets for a lot of photography!

As we explored the city, it was amazing to see the diversity among the members, as we shared the different things that we found in our travels. We would often find ourselves shooting within mere feet of each other, but we would be photographing different things in different ways!

My favorite shot of the night would be the dome inside the lobby of the Rhode Island Convention Center. High above the marble floor, and surrounded by giant windows, the scene captivated my eye! As I lay in the middle of the lobby floor hand-holding my camera to get the shot you see here, security informed us that we would have to stop photographing the building. As reinforcements arrived, we explained who we were, what we were doing, and in the end everyone had a few laughs.

We moved on to new locations in the city, and continued to collect laughs and photographs along the way. If you are located in Rhode Island, you should consider checking out the Drink and Click group and joining us for our next adventure. Drink and Click is also hosted in many cities around the country, so if Rhode Island is a bit too far for you to travel look for one in your area. You sure won’t be disappointed!
