Getting cool with Fine Art Seascape Photography at Beavertail
Beavertail State Park is located on the southern tip of Conanicut Island, and is famous around Rhode Island for its historic lighthouse and stunning seascapes of Narragansett Bay. Sitting squarely at the entrance to the Bay, one can see ever popular Newport, Rhode Island to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.
Rhode Island saw lots of heat and humidity over the 4th of July weekend, and when it gets hot Rhode Islanders flock to the coast to cool off. While many Rhode Islanders hit the beach, I like to go to Beavertail. Not only is it my favorite location for fine art photography, but its location means there is always a breeze coming off the Narragansett Bay that provides great relief from the heat. It was this breeze that lured me to the park on a hot and humid Friday evening.
I packed up some chairs, my camera and my wife and together we make the short drive to the park. While she sat on the top of the bluffs knitting, I explored the rocky shoreline of the park for the millionth time, looking for the perfect composition for a seascape photograph. Ultimately I settled on a small pool of water left behind when the tide receded, and picked an angle that allowed the pool and the rocky shoreline to be a prominent foreground element in my composition, and then I simply waited for the sun to begin to dip below the horizon.
As I stood on the rocks clicking the shutter all the heat and humidity disappeared, and it was just me and my camera working together in peace and solitude to create the seascape photograph that you see here. I hope you enjoy! You can purchase a high quality print of this photograph, as well as many of the photographs that I have created in my travels around Rhode Island in my fine art print gallery.
