The Claiborn Pell Bridge

Blue Hour Photography of the Newport Bridge

Rhode Island if full of many iconic subjects for fine art landscape and seascape photography. One such subject is the Newport Bridge, formally known as the Claiborn Pell Bridge. The Newport Bridge spans Narragansett Bay, connecting the town of Jamestown with the city of Newport.

The bridge is often photographed from the Newport side of Narragansett Bay, however I wanted to try some photographs from Jamestown. Facing into the east from this side of the bay I was able to get more of a profile shot of the bridge with the sunrise coming up in the background.

Newport Bridge at Dusk

Whenever I do sunrise photography I always try to be on site and ready an hour before the sun actually rises. This hour, know as “blue hour”, is a favorite time of day for fine art photographers around the world. This hour before sunrise and after sunset is well known for its beautiful quality of light, and I love the blues, magenta’s and pinks that appear in the sky. I have created some of my favorite photographs during this magical hour, and I never tire of looking at them.

I created several photographs that morning, at different times before and after sunrise and with different compositions. This photograph was my favorite, as the negative space in the photograph somehow seemed to fit with how I felt that morning on an empty beach.

You can view and purchase fine art prints of many of my photographs in my fine art print gallery.
