Find your light. Find your “why.”

I’ve got to admit something. Or rather, I need to say it out loud:
Simply put, this isn’t just my favorite workshop. It’s the one that lights me up inside. Every single time.

But I’ll be honest—this one isn’t for the faint of heart or the fumbling beginner. To begin with , you need to know your gear and how to use it. We’re not going to spend time chatting about the exposure triangle or the Sunny 16 rule. Nope. This workshop? This is something deeper. Ultimately, this is about intention. About soul. About why you press that shutter in the first place.

Not my why.
Yours.

No rapid-fire clicking, and certainly no “spray and pray” approach to photography. In contrast, we’ll slow down.To be clear, this is a mindful, deliberate practice. On purpose, some mornings I’ll only take 30 or 40 shots total—and that’s by design. We’re not here to collect pixels. Instead, we’re chasing meaning in every frame. Above all, we’re here to make visual poetry. To tell stories. As we go, I’m going to push you—gently but relentlessly—to ask “why” at every turn.

I’ll ask you “Why this composition?”
We will chat about “Why that exposure?”
“Why this moment?”

You might get sick of me asking why. Still, trust me—your work will get better. So much better.

🔥 What to Expect

⚠️ Small Group Size

To put it another way, this is an intimate experience—just 2, maybe 3 photographers total. It’s as close to one-on-one as you can get without being awkward. (Though, fair warning: I’m still awkward. I may even tell a few bad jokes. It’s part of the charm.)

🖥️ The Night Before (Zoom Meet & Greet)

We’ll hop on a 30-minute Zoom call the evening before. During that time I’ll walk you through what to bring, what to wear, and where to meet. We’ll break the ice and set the vibe. From there, everything will start to click!

🌅 The Morning Of

We meet at a beach in the Narragansett area and start shooting one hour before sunrise, and why? Because that magical blue hour? It’s pure alchemy. During the workshop, we’ll spend about four hours together, exploring the light, refining your vision, and dialing in the why behind every frame. As the morning unfolds, we’ll work scene by scene, side by side, asking tough questions and pushing for honest answers.

To be clear, this isn’t about taking pictures.
It’s about making art.

☕ After the Shoot: Coffee & Critique

Once the gear’s packed up and the tide has had its say, we’ll head to a local café. Afterward, we’ll grab breakfast and probably way too much coffee. I’ll set up my projector, while you order breakfast. Once we’re settled, and we’ll do a full image review right there. At that point, we’ll talk honestly about what worked, what didn’t, what confused you, and what lit you up.

Don’t worry about perfection.
More importantly, your so-called “failures” will teach you more than you ever expected.
(And hey, I’ve been there—Algebra II flashbacks and all.)

No fluff, no false praise. Likewise, if it’s great, I’ll tell you. If it misses the mark, I’ll tell you that too. But every bit of it will help you grow.

🎯 By the End of the Workshop…

In the end, you’ll walk away with:

  • A stronger sense of your voice as a photographer
  • A few powerful, story-driven images you’ll be proud to print
  • A deeper understanding of how to shoot with clarity, purpose, and heart
  • And possibly the jitters (because yes, there will be coffee… lots of coffee)

💵 Pricing & Details

If this sounds like the kind of growth you’ve been craving, don’t hesitate.

Together, you bring the passion.
I’ll bring the sunrise—and the caffeine. Oh and if there is no sunrise. Scratch that, if there is inclement weather there will be a rain date. If there is no sunrise we have a bigger problem 😉
