to oddball finds that stop you in your tracks—
these images capture the beauty in places and things you might never expect.
I still recall the day I photographed the little Hellcat at the museum.
It was a rainy day, so I found an old aircraft museum to explore.
As I crawled all over the inside of that dusty, grungy old hangar, outside the storm slowly pulled away.
From my days as an aircraft mechanic, I instantly knew what was happening.
The ringing bells meant the volunteers were opening the hangar doors to let in a little fresh air.
As soon as I saw the sky and clouds through the crack in the slowly opening giant door,
I ran to find something to put in front of my lens.
I had only a few moments to get set up and capture the scene before the door was fully opened.
The partially open door, with that window, was just perfect.
These iconic objects and scenes are everywhere around us—
endless opportunities for amazing visual storytelling.
We just have to keep looking. And imagining.
