![]() Hello Friends, October is here, and with it comes crisp air, golden light, and plenty of inspiration. I know this is called a newsletter, but truthfully—I don’t love that word. It sounds like a broadcast, and that’s not what I’m aiming for. I’m not trying to build an audience. I’m trying to build a community. You don’t have to be a photographer to be part of this. You just have to have a desire to share. To grow. Whether you’re a speaker, a writer, a creator—or simply a human being navigating life—I want this space to be an invitation to connect. This is a place for conversation, not just updates. I want to hear from you. What you think. What you feel. What moves you. Let’s grow together. Featured Tip: Embracing Autumn Light Fall offers some of the most beautiful natural lighting of the year. The sunsets tend to be off the chart beautiful. Try shooting during golden hour to capture warm tones and long shadows. Don’t forget to experiment with backlighting through colorful leaves for a dreamy effect. Two Nights That Changed Everything September saw two presentations of the Art of the Seascape here in Rhode Island. Once to the folks at the Wickford Art Association, and once to the folks at the Photographic Society of Rhode Island. I’ve got to be honest—I loved these two nights. Butterflies? Absolutely. Familiar faces? Smiling, supportive, and full of warmth. Hugs? You bet. Connecting in person again with so many of you was humbling. The welcome I received, the kind words, the energy in the room—it all reminded me why I do this. And it made me realize something important: I have so much more to share. Sixty minutes wasn’t nearly enough. Not just for settings and techniques, but for the deeper stuff—the power those tools give us as creators. The ability to communicate without words. To evoke emotion. To tell stories that resonate. On the ride home, I felt it in my bones: This is the direction I want to go. This is the kind of work I want to do. What would you like to see in a presentation? Or even a series of presentations? Something educational? Something inspirational? A mix of the two? Something else entirely? It’s been a journey of rediscovery: as a human being, an artist, and a photographer. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to cross paths with some truly inspiring people who’ve helped me see things in new ways. One of the biggest shifts? My website. Let’s be honest—it was dated, out of touch, and not reflecting who I am today. Hearing that wasn’t easy, but it was true. That conversation sparked a complete overhaul: new colors, new logo, new layout, and most importantly, a new approach. I’d love for you to check it out: 👉 mikedooleyphotography.com Wander through the pages, explore the galleries, and let me know what you think. Honest, constructive feedback is always welcome. Is it too slow? Too wordy? Confusing to navigate? Every little bit helps me grow. Unexpected Conversations, New Directions Sometimes people enter your life out of nowhere and change your perspective. During a recent business class, I mentioned something that caught the teacher’s attention. After class, she pulled me aside and asked a question that stopped me in my tracks: “Have you ever considered public speaking—and using your photography to share your story of healing?” That conversation led me to a public speaking coach, and I’ve been working with her regularly ever since. Her guidance and gentle nudging have sparked a lot of reflection. It’s true what they say: sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees. This new path is still unfolding, but it’s already reshaping how I think about my work, my voice, and the stories I want to tell—not just through images, but through words. Coming Soon: The Signature Series Collection You spoke, I listened. One of the most powerful pieces of feedback I received from my book was this: “We love the stories.” So I’m leaning in. The upcoming Signature Series Collection is more than just a set of images—it’s a narrative experience. Each piece will be paired with the story behind it: the moment, the emotion, the transformation. This collection is deeply personal, and it reflects the growth, healing, and rediscovery I’ve been experiencing. It’s a new way of sharing my work. It’s a new way of sharing me. Stay tuned—more details coming soon. I’d Love to Hear From You This new collection is deeply personal, and I want it to resonate—not just with me, but with you. So I’m asking: What do you think? Does the idea of pairing images with personal stories speak to you? What kind of stories move you? What would you love to see in the Signature Series? Your thoughts, feedback, and even your questions help shape this journey. Feel free to reply to this email, message me on social, or drop a note through the website. I read every message—and I truly appreciate your voice. Next Steps: Let’s Connect Let’s have some conversations.
