Winter Sunrise at Rocky Point

Pastel pink sky over an ice-covered shoreline at Rocky Point Park in Warwick, Rhode Island. I went down hoping for sea smoke, didn’t get any, and made this instead.

The Story Behind “Winter Sunrise at Rocky Point”

Rocky Point was an amusement park when I was a kid, just down the road from my house. The rides are long gone, but the shoreline is still there, a quiet public park along Narragansett Bay.

I went down before sunrise on a cold winter morning hoping for sea smoke. It was cold enough, but the water stayed calm and there wasn’t a wisp of mist. I stayed anyway.

I set the camera almost on the frozen ground so the ice-covered rocks would fill the foreground. From there the shoreline leads your eye to the old pier. The clouds drifted into place and echoed the curve of the coast, the sky went pastel pink over a deep blue, and the sun reached the horizon just as I pressed the shutter.

Limited Edition Information

An edition of 25, and then it’s closed.

You get a 12×18 inch image printed on 13×19 inch archival paper. I print it myself. Each print is signed, titled and numbered.

The story behind the photograph comes with it, printed on 9×11 fine art paper, along with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Artist’s proofs (AP) are also made. They are numbered and marked AP, and I use them at my discretion.

Open Edition Information

Open Edition prints are made by Blazing Editions, a fine art print studio I’ve worked with for over a decade. I’ve been through their shop and watched how they work. They print to order with archival pigment inks, on paper or metal, and I trust them with my images.

Paper or Metal?

Paper gives you the most detail and the traditional look. Metal is glossy, vivid and tough, and it hangs without a frame.

Both use archival materials and archival pigment inks.

These are fine art prints. Frames are not included.

Which Size?

When in doubt, I’d go a size up.

The Print Size Guide shows how each size looks in a room.

Shipping & Handling

Every print is made to order and packed with care.
