Night photography in the city is one of my favorite things — the lights and colors make for great subjects. This time, the subject was a fine art sculpture on the grounds of the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
I was in the city for a Drink and Click meetup — a national group that gets photographers together for dinner, conversation, and some social shooting. Each event has a theme, and that month’s was leading lines.
We found plenty of interesting subjects walking the streets, but the sculpture at the Dunkin Donuts Center hooked me. I tried a few different compositions before landing on one that felt right — a wide angle lens, in close, letting the subject fill the frame so the shot became about the light, the color, and the lines rather than the sculpture itself as an object.
Providence is a genuinely great city for the fine art community — the art scattered around town, the general atmosphere that seems to encourage people like me to keep making work. Night photography here is something I keep coming back to.
