Race Point Lighthouse sits at the very tip of Cape Cod — reached only by a long drive and a longer hike across dunes that swallow your footsteps. We stopped partway to photograph the Milky Way, the beam sweeping the dunes like a searchlight, whale song rising from the dark water below. No clouds that morning, no drama — just windblown grass, a forgotten brick oil house, and a sky that chose to whisper instead of shout.
The best compositions reveal themselves in the scouting, long before the light shows up. Patience in the dark is its own kind of skill.
