One cold winter evening, a friend and I headed out for a little night photography in Providence. We ended up parked on the third level of the garage attached to Providence Place Mall, and I stepped out to an elevated view of the city. What caught my eye was the big loop of highway below, headlights sweeping through the scene like brushstrokes on a canvas.
I dragged the shutter, leaving it open long enough for the moving lights to turn into glowing streaks of motion, white headlights fading into fiery red taillights as the cars curved away into the night. There’s even a faint green streak in there if you look. the lights of a passing train.
What I love most is that transition, white to red, as the highway twists through the frame. Moments like that are why I carry a camera in the first place.
Available as an open or limited edition print, on paper or metal. Frame not included.
Shot in Providence, Rhode Island.
