The Bald Eagle – The Symbol of a Nation

The bald eagle has long stood as the symbol of the United States, and sharing this photograph on Veterans Day felt fitting. Whatever else the weekend holds, it’s worth taking a moment to think about the people who serve this country.

I’ve always loved the bald eagle — there are photographs, paintings, and statues of them all around my house. A few years back I got the chance to visit Wind Over Wings, a raptor rehabilitation center in Connecticut, to photograph one up close.

Shot with a 70-200mm lens wide open at f/2.8 and 200mm, to throw the pine tree behind it well out of focus. This was one of my first outings with PSRI, my local photography club — made some good photographs that day, and a few friends along with them.
