The Best Camera is the One You Have With You
People ask me this a lot, and the honest answer is usually pretty simple: the camera you have with you. One evening at my desk at work, a co-worker called out, “Whoa, look at that sunset!” I walked over to the windows and couldn’t believe what was out there — the colors reflecting off the bottoms of the clouds were something else.
I knew it would only last a few minutes, and none of my real gear was with me. Just my phone. No tripod, no exposure control, barely any ability to focus. It’s not a great photograph, and not something I’d print and hang on a wall — but it’s enough to remember the moment, a good five-minute break in a hectic day, and a nice conversation with a co-worker in front of one of nature’s better shows. Better to take the photo with the camera you have than not take it at all.
