Photographing Sunrise at Black Rock in Narragansett, Rhode Island
While out photographing sunrise at Black Rock in Narragansett the other morning, I was drawn in by the crashing waves. It was extremely windy, and the ocean was pounding the shore. Each crashing wave reminded me of the tremendous power of the sea before me!
In seascape photography it is a very common practice to use a long exposure to allow time to smooth out the waves, and give a smooth milky appearance to the water. On this day I wanted to do the exact opposite – I wanted to keep the sea looking rough!
So often I try to capture my feelings in my photography, to share not just what I saw, but also what I felt. On this morning it was awe. Awe at the power of nature – from the crashing waves to the powerful rays of the sun, that power was all around!
As I look at this photograph I can hear the sound of water hitting the shore, feel the wind on my face, and even smell the salty air of the sea. I hope that you can too!
You can purchase a print of this photograph, as well as one of the many photos I have in my portfolio, safely and securely in the fine art print gallery here on the website!
