Hot Air Balloon Photography
As a photographer living in Rhode Island, I am never at a loss for interesting subjects for my fine art photography. One of the joys of photography is the variety in the subjects, as I feel it really helps me to capture the true spirit of Rhode Island in my fine art prints.
Each and every summer for the past 32 years The Rotary Club of Wakefield, Rhode Island holds the annual South County Hot Air Balloon Festival on the athletic fields of the University of Rhode Island. This three day event has all kinds of attractions – music, rides, games, arts & crafts, remote controlled airplanes and helicopters and so much more. Oh yeah, and as the name of the event implies, they also have hot air balloons. And I can think of few subjects better suited for fine art photography then the hot air balloons glowing in the night sky.
My favorite part of the Hot Air Balloon Festival is what they call the balloon “glow”. As the day starts to wind down, the balloons setup and as the sun slips down over the horizon the balloon operators burn their gas, causing the balloon to glow from the inside out. Combine the rich and vibrant colors of the balloons with the warm color of the flame and the sky at dusk it really is a sight to behold!
I hope that you have enjoyed my photography from the hot air balloon festival, and that you check out the prints that are available in my fine art print gallery. If you get a chance to go to a hot air balloon festival, don’t start packing the gear away just because the sun it starting to set. Stay a little bit linger and check out the glow – I’ll bet you’ll be glad in the end.
