Classic Hot Rods at the Car Show

Photographing Classic Hot Rods at the local Car Show

On a recent Saturday trip to a local car show, I had the chance to photograph a lot of classic hot rods on a gorgeous sunny day. Far from the ideal situation for photography, I still had a great time and came away with some photographs that I was really pleased with!

I cannot imagine the time and work that goes into creating one of these moving works of art, and I can sure appreciate the creativity. The cars themselves are really breathtaking, and this classic Ford is no exception. I fell in love with the rich blue metallic paint, and how it sparkled in the summer sun!

Blue Ford Hot Rod

There are several challenges in car show photography, but with a little creative thinking and patience you can get some great photographs. The mid day light is harsh, especially on the all the shiny metal that covers virtually every hot rod. Paying attention to the suns location can help minimize the glare.

Large crowds make patience a real virtue, as they walk in and out of the frame. To create this photograph, I found my spot got all my camera settings adjusted and simply waited for a moment that nobody was in the frame. I waited close to 20 minutes for it, but by being patient I got what I wanted.

I hope that you enjoy this photo of a classic Ford hot rod, and encourage you to check out the next car show near you. Even if you are not into photography, spending an afternoon checking out these amazing works of art!
