One of my very favorite times of year in Rhode Island is the fall season. As the temperatures start to drop the leaves in the tress turn a wonderful array of yellows, oranges and reds before falling from their branches and leaving the trees bare. While still a bit early in the season for the leaves to have much color, this morning I headed out to Scituate to Ponaganset Falls for sunrise to check things out. There ended up being a bit too much hazy in the air to get much that I really liked for landscape, but I did end up getting one shot that I was pretty happy with.
When the sky is not giving me what I am looking for, I will often swap my wide angle lens for a telephoto or macro lens, and I will look for small intimate scenes that catch my eye. The early morning soft light makes for excellent photography. I spent much of my time letting my lens explore the water and rocks of the falls. There is something magical about using a small aperture and slow shutter speed for moving water. It gives the water a silky smooth look and feel that stands in such strong contrast to the rough rocks that the falls cascade down upon. Of the shots that I took this morning, this was my very favorite!
I hope that you have enjoyed these images, and stop back again soon!
