Seascape Photography Along the Rhode Island Coast

Seascape Photography Along the Rhode Island Coast

During a recent evening while working on my seascape photography along the Rhode Island coast, I was faced with a dilemma that I do not often run into. Usually, the color in the sky determine which direction I will point my camera. My challenge is to then compose all of the elements I like into an interesting seascape photograph.

Sunset on the Seagrass

On the evening in question I was very fortunate to have beautiful skies full of amazing colors! The sunset in the west had the sky on fire and full of vibrant, bold colors blazing across the sky!

One of the lessons that I have learned over the years is that whenever the sunrise or sunset is doing something spectacular in the sky in front of you, it is always a wise idea to look over your shoulder at what is behind you. Very often this gorgeous light is doing some pretty spectacular things on the landscape behind you!

When I looked over my shoulder to check the skies in the east, my heart skipped a beat. I found that the soft, whispy clouds in the sky were the most amazing pastel shades of blues, magentas and pinks. The golden light falling on the seaside rocks brought out the detail in the rocks in a variety of warm tones. The soft light brought out the greens in the grass in subtle, muted shades.

I was fascinated by the layers of colors in the scene and quickly grabbed my tripod and camera bag and crawled down into the grass to create a photograph. I tried a few compositions before I settled on the one that you see here.

This print, as well as prints of many other works of mine, are available for purchase in my fine art print gallery directly through my website.
