Photographs of the 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon
On October 21, 2012 I had the unique opportunity to get out and do some photography while at the same time help out a good cause. When a friend reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to take photographs at a local event for charity, I could not help but say yes once I heard what it was!
The event was the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in at Roger Williams Park, in Providence, Rhode Island. This annual 3 mile walk-a-thon starts at the Temple of Music, and winds it way around the park before finishing back at the Temple. This years walk took place on a beautiful sunny, fall day and the turnout was amazing. The park was awash in a sea of pink – there were pink shirts pink pants, pink socks and pink hats as far as the eye could see. There were over 15,000 walkers that day, and together they raised over $900,000 to help fight the battle against breast cancer!
It was an amazing day, full of inspiration and emotions. There were breast cancer survivors with special pink survivor sashes, as well as teams walking in remembrance of a loved one that had lost their battle with cancer. There was more then one occasion that I had to stop taking photographs in order to dry my eyes.
