Waterfalls in the Woods

Stepping Stone Falls

Often times the mood strikes me to take photographs at times of the day that aren’t necessarily the best times or conditions for photography. On one such day it was late morning, and I just needed to take some pictures. Mid-day is not usually good for photography, simply because the light is harsh and high in the sky. So does this mean that you can’t do photography? Not at all, it just means you need to be a little selective.

On days like these, I like to head into the woods. The dense foliage overhead softens the light, and the woods are often full with all kinds of interesting wildlife, vegetation, and little steams and rivers. I have always wanted to take a trip out to Stepping Stone Falls in West Greenwich, Rhode Island and today seemed like the perfect day for a little hike in the woods. Overall, it was a great day and a beautiful place. If you are looking for something to do in Rhode Island, I highly recommend a visit to this little gem. Relatively easy to find, with easy trails to follow. Just bring some bug spray!

The image in this post is my favorite from that day, it somehow seems to have a bit of a dreamy feel to it for me. Maybe it is the blurry water, or perhaps the slightly blurry leaves in the trees. You can see all of the shots from this adventure in a slideshow on my Flickr account.

I hope you enjoy!
